Laos’ economy has accelerated rapidly in recent years with demand for its metal and natural resources having increased substantially. Laos has taken steps to encourage foreign investment in mining with Australian, Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai companies engaged in production and exploration activities throughout the country.
Prevalent commodities in Laos include gold, silver, copper, tin, coal and potash. The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party has taken substantial steps and measures to encourage and maintain foreign investment in the country alongside local companies, and the mining industry is becoming a significant contributor to the Laos economy.
